Greetings in the name of the Lord!
Greetings in the name of the Lord! Make Note is a bi-monthly newsletter from Jeff and Jeannie Furst
and family, telling all about what’s going on in their musical worlds.
Theatrical news: We have some exciting
news concerning the Thespian side of our family. John Peter has landed a major role in an off-campus theater production of
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. For those who have never heard of this play, it’s a variation on Hamlet written
by Tom Stoppard. John is playing the part of Guildenstern. The last time he had to memorize this many lines was back in High
School in 2003, and so he’s a bit nervous, but he will do fine! The play will run at South Park in Lawrence (13th &
Massachusetts) on June 6th at 7pm, June 8th at 2pm, and June 13th and 14th at 7pm. If you want more information you can find
it at the Lawrence Arts Center website: http://www.lawrenceartscenter.com/calendar.html And speaking of the Arts Center, Heidi will be in their Summer Youth Theater production of the musical Camelot,
where she will play the part of - who else? - Guenevere (? -their sp). The show runs July 24th-27th. Heidi will be
attending Johnson County Community College in the fall. She was able to audition for the theater department and was offered
a scholarship that will help her in her first year. Go Heidi!!
FURST LIGHT: FL recently played again at Homer’s
Coffee House in Overland Park. We had a good crowd, and it was almost totally different from the good crowd we had in our
debut concert in November. Thanks to all those who came to see us!
Furst Light also recently played in Prairie Village
at a church art fair, and Jeannie and Jeff played the following day (Mother’s Day) at a church in KCMO. A very busy
weekend! Additionally, FL is recording again, working on what will be Jeannie’s second CD. Our new material will have
a variety of styles and will feature some great material written by our good friend and lead guitar player, Greg Ward.
Remember
that the schedule for both the Witness Band and Furst Light can be found on www.jeanniefurst.com! Myriad musical antics: The
first weekend of May, Jeff played cowboy music with Dave Boyd at the Kansas Sampler Festival, which is, as its name implies,
a celebration of our great state. This took place in Concordia, and Jeff was amazed at the size of this event: It’s
quite a draw, and people come from all over the state, representing every county. It will be in Concordia again next year
and in Leavenworth in 2010 and 2011. Go to www.kansassampler.org if you want to learn more. Jeff’s friend Noah Musser
and his band The Prairie Acre were there also; in fact, Noah and Jeff rode down and back together.
Then later that
night, The Dylan Paul Band, of which John Peter is a member, performed at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. This was the final round
of a city-wide Battle of the Bands competition. Jeannie and Jeff only got to hear a couple of songs from the DPB, but they
sounded great. It turns out they won the competition. The prizes include some recording time in a studio. Congratulations,
guys! If you would like to check out this band, you can find them at: http://www.myspace.com/dylanpaul
Jeff also got a chance to perform in downtown Kansas City at a small art fair that was in conjunction
with First Fridays, an event that takes place on the first Friday of every month, in which artists have their works on display
at a number of different galleries. Jeff played guitar and sang American and Irish folk songs. Needless to say, the Irish
songs were well received. It was, after all, Kansas City!! You can email us at: jefurst@hotmail.com (Jeannie) and jgfurst@hotmail.com
(Jeff) And don’t forget to check out jeanniefurst.com. ‘Til July, God bless you everyone!!
